Crafted to be Craved

The story of Kooké began long before we opened our doors.

Growing up in Paris, surrounded by some of the world's most beautiful bakeries, pâtisseries and cafés, shaped both my appreciation for food and my ambition. I learned that the things we remember most are often the simplest: the smell of something freshly baked, the first bite of a warm cookie, or the comfort of sitting together over coffee.

When I moved to London, I wanted to share a small piece of that experience with my new friends and, later, with my own family — my husband and daughter.

Parisian-style cookies had always been my favourite thing to bake. Then came my love for matcha: its ritual, its vibrant colour and the many ways it could be enjoyed. What began as an interest soon became an obsession, followed by a dream of opening a small cookie, coffee and matcha boutique of my own.

When the opportunity arose at the historic 127 Bayswater Road, opposite Kensington Gardens, it felt like the perfect place to bring that dream to life. Kooké was born in my imagination, and a year later, it became real.

But Kooké was never intended to be just another coffee shop. It was meant to be a third home. Your local coffee shop where you feel a sense of belonging, outside of work and personal life.

For years, I had visited busy cafés where everything felt rushed. You ordered, paid and left, often without anyone looking up or asking how your day was. I understood the need for speed, but I always felt that something important had been lost: genuine human connection when you have your most important ritual of the day, grabbing a simple coffee or a matcha.

I wanted to create something different.

At Kooké, we do not simply serve customers — we welcome guests. We learn names, remember favourite drinks and take the time to talk. We hear about families, celebrations, adventures and sometimes difficult days. These conversations are not part of a script. They are part of who we are.

Because people may forget exactly what they ordered, but they remember how a place made them feel.

That same care goes into everything we make. Our ceremonial-grade Uji matcha is brought in all the way from Japan. It is sifted and whisked to order, slow and intentional, like matcha was meant to be had traditionally. Our coffee is carefully prepared and properly extracted, without being rushed. Our organic single-origin coffee beans are made properly — the Italian way — to give you the fresh start to your day.

Our organic French-style cookies are baked fresh throughout the day with care and intention. Crisp around the edges and soft and gooey at the centre, they are made with organic butter and eggs, premium Belgian chocolate and French Valrhona chocolate. So you can have the best experience when you bite into them. Simple. Fresh. Baked with care. And no shortcuts. Everything that good baking needs.

We take pride in honouring the heritage of 127 Bayswater Road by continuing to serve the soft-serve gelato that has been part of this location's story for generations. It is a tradition we feel fortunate to have inherited from the original family, and one we are proud to carry forward.
